Formerly entered as NX03NE 8068, and also as NX03NE 8007 at cited location NX c. 099 377 [N54 41.9 W4 57], and as NX03NE 8073 at cited locations NX 0979 3628 (N 54 41.1333 W 4 57.0667) and NX c. 09 38 [N54 42 W4 58].

Formerly entered in error under classification Steamship.

18 March 1976. SOCRATES sank on the 2 January 1913.

Surveying Details

18 March 1976. The wreck was located at 54 41 46N, 004 57 30W. It appears to have been blown up shortly after sinking. It is well scattered over the bottom of the bay. The wreck belongs to the Stranraer branch of the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club.

18 April 1977. Further to previous reports, wreckage is found about 10 metres offshore in 3 metres of water lying on rough ground which slopes quite sharply. The wreck is flattened and scattered. The highest point being the boiler which stands slightly clear of main wreckage in 12 metres of water and 4-5 metres high.
