Archaeology Notes

NT47SE 30.07 4678 7363

On the west side of the road to Trabroun farm, two post holes 3.0m apart and a metal straining rod probably for an electric pylon were noted. The post-holes were D-shaped in plan measuring 3.0m across, with vertical sides extending over 0.60m below the surface of the subsoil. A ceramic cable insulator was found nearby. Thought to have been site of electricity pylons. The alignment of the two excavated post-holes and the straining rod suggest that a cable once ran from that point to a small factory at Elvingston (NT 460 740). On the west side of the road to Trabroun farm was a stone filled ditch with a V-shaped profile, and a shallow scoop 0.40m in diameter and 0.09m deep. These may also have been associated with the pylon.

Part of an archaeological assessment undertaken by Scotia Archaeology Limited along the propsed new route of the A1 between Tranent and Haddington in 1994 and 1995.
