This intermediate station on the Perth-Stirling main line of the former Caledonian Railway was opened on 22 May 1848 (by the Scottish Central Railway) and closed to regular passenger traffic on 1 November 1965. A new station (NS79NE 72) was opened on 13 May 1985, a short distance to the south and beyond the road bridge.
