Archaeology Notes

NF77NW 15 centred 728 753.

The late Mr H H Mackenzie, factor of the North Uist estates, formed a large collection of antiquities from the Western Isles between about 1880 and 1934. Among them are listed 'bone needles and pins, parts of bone combs, bone whorls, bone fasteners, bone wilk picks and borers, bronze needles and pins', found at several places, including Scolpaig. This collection is now in the Royal Museum of Scotland (RMS, formerly the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland [NMAS]), but it is not now possible to state exactly which items among those listed came from Scolpaig.

J Close-Brooks and S Maxwell 1975.
