Watching Brief (June 2010 - August 2010)
NT 4662 2886
A watching brief was carried out June– August 2010 during ground-breaking work associated with the construction of a new depot and office extension. The
development is located on the former site of a factory and Selkirk Station, a Victorian railway station and yard. The watching brief identified fragmentary evidence of the 1970s factory and a large, heavily disturbed piece of mortar-bonded sandstone rubble foundation. Although its function and date could not be
determined, it was probably associated with the former railway station or yard. Two modern demolition cuts recorded in the trenches provided evidence of the comprehensive demolition process that had previously taken place on this site.
