AOC Archaeology Group were commissioned by GVA Grimley on behalf of their client, the Royal Bank of Scotland, to undertake an historic building survey at Nos 11 & 13 Eyre Terrace, Edinburgh, prior to demolition.

The buildings were constructed in 1903 on a site which was previously occupied in the late 19th century by the Royal Patent Gymnasium of Edinburgh. No 11 Eyre Terrace was constructed as a single storey dwelling and No 13 was built as a laundry and was used as such until the 1950s when it was taken over by Wilson’s Bakery. The buildings, constructed

of brick, the latter with a steel—framed superstructure, have been left empty for some time and, at the time of inspection, were in a poor state of repair.

A Level 2/3 survey was undertaken of the surviving buildings, which included an archive search, photographic, written and drawn record (annotation of architects’ plans and elevations).
