Excavation
Bracewell Stirling Architects, on behalf of Battan Developments commissioned Headland Archaeology Ltd to undertake an archaeological evaluation on the land adjacent to Wardlaw Church, Kirkhill, Inverness.
The site lies in an area of known archaeological potential. Approximately 500 m to the north west lies the ruins of St Mary’s Church dated to the 13th century. A number of probable prehistoric sites have been identified within the surrounding landscape including cairns and enclosures. The 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps (1876 and 1905) show the site as
open fields.
Eight trenches were excavated across the site.
