AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned by J Smart and Co to undertake an archaeological evaluation on a proposed residential development at the former Eastern General Hospital, Seafield Road, Leith. The development area consists of open land situated on the remains of the previously demolished Eastern General Hospital to the north side of Seafield Road and consisted of an archaeological evaluation of nine trenches totalling 1,175m2 metres. Prior to the evaluation, an historic building recording exercise was undertaken on the remains of the Eastern General Hospital in 2006 and a later building recording exercise on No 4 Seafield Street in 2013. No archaeological remains were discovered.
