A survey of the archaeological features located within Culzean Castle Policies was undertaken by Headland Archaeology Ltd. as part of the Culzean Castle Conservation Framework and Management Plan.

The survey built on the Historic Landscape Survey carried out by Landskip and Prospect in 1993, and identified a number of additional features

979142	RECORDING	FIELD VISIT	A re-assessment of this area since it has undergone clearance suggests that the road, continuing S of Memorial Cottages is truncated or eroded out fairly soon. The marked bankings referred to in 1993 are more likely to be remains of terracing; this may or may not have been built partly to truncate the road. The very large earthworks at the SW end (CUZ 167, 168, 169), including two separate hollows, revetment walling and placed in full view of the viaduct are unlikely to be built to stop traffic. It is more likely that they are relict landscape features. The road is not represented on the OS 1st edition 6” map. [...]	5 April 2005
