Water fountain in memory of Dr A R Fraser, Lochgilphead

LOCHGILPHEAD. - MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN - The erection was completed yesterday of a handsome fountain which has been put up in the square in memory of the late Dr A. R. Fraser, son of the late Rev. William Fraser, minister of Lochgilphead Free Church. The fountain, which is of red freestone on a concrete base, measures 7ft. 6in. by 6ft., and stands 10ft. high, and is the work of Messrs Muir & Co., sculptors, Kilmarnock. It bears the following inscription :- "In memory Alexander Rodger Fraser, M.A., M.B., C.M., born 1865, died 1895. Erected by a few friends belonging to the Bengal Collieries, India'" Dr Fraser was for a time engaged as medical officer in the collieries, and died at the Red Sea when on his way home. The fountain is from a design by Mr William Fraser, architect, Glasgow and Dunoon, brother of the late Dr Fraser.
