The drill hall was built around 1911, according to Osborne (2006), on the site of St Mary's episcopalian church, the graveyard of which survives in part. The building first appears on the 3rd epoch 1:2500 OS map.

The building has a bulky two-storey front block with two forward-projecting gabled wings flanking a central door. The large hall lies behind. The building is now in use as a masonic hall.

In 1914 the hall was the base for "A" Company, 5th (Angus & Dundee) battalion, Black Watch.
