The Bank Street, Brechin drill hall was built in 1897, designed by T M Cappon of Dundee. It comprises a handsome two-storey front block. The gable has finials over the centre bay. There is an archway with the royal coat of arms, an insription to the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Highlanders, Black Watch and the arms of the Black watch. There is a high hall behind and a house set off to one side.

In 1914 the hall was the base for "D" Company 5th Black Watch.
