The sundial is positioned in the east part of the Walled Garden at the foot of the steps, and is of two parts: a cuboid main part in grey sandstone with dial and damaged gnomons on four sides; moulded cap and ball finial above in the same stone; dated to early 18th century. The cube sits on a yellow sandstone pedestal with arch-top recessed panels, which has remnants of iron-work and other sockets suggesting previous use as a pier for iron railings or balustrade.

A fountain is noted in this position on the 1894 1:2,500 OS map and appears in a photograph of 1880.
