This food vessel (NMS loan accession no. Q.L.1953.32) is of rather globular form, decorated and about five inches in height. It is said to have been found with a skeleton in digging a road on the Penicuik Estate.

It is accompanied in the NMS collection by another vessel (Q.L.1953.33) that comprises the base and part of the wall and rim of a vase-shaped food vessel, decorated and with an orignal height of four inches. It is assumed this vessel is also from the Penicuik district, although there is no suggestion that they were found at the same place. They were lent to the museum by Sir John Clerk in 1953.

Information from Trevor Cowie, 10 May 2012.
