NO75NW 8071 c. 712 571
N56 42.3 W2 28.3
NLO: Montrose [name: NO 720 572].
(Location of loss cited as 'in Montrose Harbour': service history and references cited).
R Larn and B Larn 1998.
(Classified as HM Drifter: registration cited as FR 106, and date of loss as 25 October 1940). Duthies: [this vessel was] sunk by aircraft at the jetty at Montrose.
Registration: Fraserburgh. Built 1914. 89grt. Length: 27m. Beam: 6m.
(Location of loss cited as N56 42.20 W2 27.50).
I G Whittaker 1998.
(Location entered as NO c. 712 571 [N56 42.3 W2 28.2]). The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary.
The location of the ' jetty at Montrose' remains unclear, but Montrose Harbour or the Port of Montrose (NO75NW 44.00) occupies an ill-defined area around NO 7123 5721, within the estuary of the River South Esk. The remains of the vessel were presumably removed without delay from this constrained location.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by G Toghill (2002 or 2004). She was presumably in requisitioned service at the date of loss.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 16 November 2011.
