ND16NW 397 centred 1212 6874

A line of anti tank blocks has been identified from a WW II RAF vertical air photograph (NLA 16, frame 631, flown 22 June 1941), situated at the E end of the esplanade and on the opposite (E) side of the River Thurso.

The line is visible from ND 12024 68726 to c. ND 1214 6876 and then c.ND 1221 6874 to c.ND 1228 6876.

Built to protect the vulnerable area at the entrance to the Rover Thurso, paricularly the outer part of the breakwater and the E beach. The blocks have since been removed.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), November 2008.
