Grampian Speleological Group (2008).
(Location cited as NX 440 640 and NX 450 650 (see NX46NE)) East and West Blackcraig Mines: largest amd most extensively worked mines in the county. The main workings run along the crest of Blackcraigs ridge for about one mile. No levels, shafts only. Main shaft is at NX 448 646 and is about 300 feet in depth. Drainage level at NX 438 647. No other information.

The 2nd edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map (Kircudbrightshire, 1895) shows extensive quarrying and mining activity along the crest and on the S slope of Blackcraig, above Blackcraig Wood. The site is named 'Blackcraig Mine' and is annotated as 'Lead' and 'Disused'.
