NB81NW 8001 unlocated

Possibly within Maritime - Western Isles.

(Classified as Motor Drifter: registration cited as SY 350, and date of loss as 31 August 1928). Star of Hope: this vessel caught fire and sank 17 miles ExS of Bayble Head. Capt. Smith.

Registration: Cromore. Built 1904. 51grt. Length: 22m. Beam: 6m.

(Location of loss cited as N58 5.0 W5 40.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are essentially arbitrary, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker. Bayble Head is not noted as such on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map but is probably to be equated with Pabail [names around NB 52 31].

The loss of this vessel may have occurred within the area that is designated as Maritime - Western Isles.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 7 October 2008.
