NG53SW 8002 unlocated

NLO: Loch Sligachan [name centred NG 515 324]

Sound of Raasay [name centred NG 55 55]

Narrows of Raasay [name centred NG 543 354]

Skye [name centred NG 45 35].

(Classified as 'lugsail' [lugger]: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as 11 April 1898). Margaret (??1926): this vessel was lost off Loch Sligachan.

Registration: Luib. 1 ton register. Length: 5m.

(Location of loss cited as N57 19.0 W6 5.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker. The mouth of Loch Sligachan is at NG 53 32.

It remains uncertain whether the vessel stranded or foundered. The latter explanation appears the more probable.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 12 August 2008.
