This milestone is situated at the back of the pavement W of the A844 public road, where it has been incorporated into the boundary wall of No. 33 Craigmore Road. It is a sandstone block (with a flattish rounded head) that measures 0.36m in breadth by 0.58m in height and it projects 0.09m from the face of the wall. The front face, which has been dressed smooth, has once borne the incised inscription 'ROTHESAY' above the number '2', and an arrow indicating the distance in miles and direction to that town, and, below this, ‘KINGARTH CHURCH’ above the number ‘6½’ and an arrow indicating the distance in miles and direction to the church. However, this inscription has been removed, probably during the early 1940s and replaced by a legend painted in black on a white background. This legend largely repeats the original inscription but makes reference to ‘Kingarth’ rather that ‘Kingarth Church'. The marker is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Buteshire 1897, Sheet CCIV.NE).
