This ruined cottage is situated in a small cultivated field some 400m NE of Melbourne Cottage farmsteading (ND34SW 183). It measures 10.8m from NE to SW by 4.9m transversely overall, but only the external corners are clearly visible, and the interior has been filled with field-cleared stones. The cottage is depicted roofed on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix).
