Opencast mining has removed the remains of a group of mines depicted on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Fife & Kinross, 1856, sheets 34; Fifeshire, 1896, sheet xxxiv SE) to the E of the A909 public Road. By 1896 these pits had been replaced by Dora Pit (see RCAHMS 2006, 142-3) and Lady Pit a short distance to the NW.
