NH43NW 8002 unlocated

NLO: Loch Ness [name centred NH 47 19].

Glasgow, 27th Jan. Accounts from Inverness state that a vessel was reported to have been stranded in Lochness [Loch Ness] during the gale of 24th Jan.

Source: LL, No. 16,783, London, Tuesday, January 28 1868.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 11354).

(No classification or cargo specified: date of loss cited as 24 January 1868). Unknown: this vessel stranded in Loch Ness.

(Location of loss cited as N57 20.0 W4 25.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. The waters of Loch Ness are extremely deep, and the vessel must have struck a rock very close to one of other of the shorelines; it remains uncertain which.

The location of loss that is cited by Whittaker is apparently arbitrary.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 28 December 2006.
