NLO: Inverness [name: NH 66 45].

Possibly on map sheet NH64SE.

Inverness, 14th Jan. The HART (Irish smack), with potatoes, went down in the [Caledonian] Canal, nearly opposite the Smithy below Muirtown Bridge, and after sinking, heeled over with her mast in the water.

Source: Additional Intelligence, LL, No. 15,528, London, Saturday, January 16 [1864].

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 10542).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. The 'Smithy below Muirtown Bridge' is presumably that (NH64NW 27.01) at NH 64903 46518

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 29 December 2006.
