This farmstead is situated on the leading edge of an old river terrace about 180m SE of Croftmaquien farmsteading (NJ02SW 69). It comprises five building disposed around three sides of a yard that is open to the SE. All of the buildings have been reduced to low, grass-grown footings. Four of the buildings are depicted roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet XLVIA); no part of the steading is shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1902, sheet XLVIA).

Millcroft is recorded in the Ordnance Survey Name Book (Inverness-shire No. 1, p.50) as 'a small farmsteading, houses one storey partly built of sods, badly thatched and in bad repair. Occupied by Miss McGillivry. The property of the Earl of Seafield, Castle Grant'.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 26 September 2006.
