'In giving a description of [Inchaffray] Abbey in 1789... to the north on a rising hill was a place called Scar Law Knowe where they tried their criminals; and on the south side was a littile mound called Tillie Chandu on which they were executed and where the executioner's lodge stands to this day.'

This mound is situated on the summit of a gravel ridge, lying within and largely defined by a wall enclosing an area 30m in diameter; it is a maximum of 1.5m high. The mound is locally known to be a burial mound, yet it seems until now to have escaped formal notice.

This cairn is situated on a low spur at the SW end of a ridge about 450m WNW of Carsehead steading (NN92SE 34.00). It measures about 22.5m from N to S by 21.5m and up to 2m in height; it is enclosed by a plantation-bank and bears some mature trees. Traces of a possible excavation are visible on the S side, and disturbance caused by rabbit burrowing suggests that the mound is largely earthen.
