NLO: Dunnet Bay [name centred ND 198 704]

Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].

Possibly on map sheets ND16NE, or ND27SW.

Thurso, 14th May. 'The CYRUS, Miller, from Greenock to London, went on shore last night in Dunnet Bay, where she still remains, but it is expected will be got off in a few days with little damage. She must discharge part of her cargo.'

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 6848, London, Tuesday May 21 1833.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6846).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 20 May 2005.
