N57 27 W6 44

NLO: Glendale [name centred NG 175 497]

Loch Pooltiel [name centred NG 161 503].

Possibly on map sheet NG14NE.

11 January 1853, CHARLOTTE FREDERICA, of Dantzic [Gdansk], brig, 160 ton, 6 men, Dantzic [Gdansk] to Liverpool, timber, wind NW force 10, stranded, Polteel Bay, Skye, by stress of weather. Lloyds Agent.

Source: PP Admiralty Register of Wrecks and other Casualties on Shores of UK [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/67 (no. 429).

(Classified as brig with cargo of timber: date of loss cited as 11 January 1853). Charlotte Frederica: this vessel stranded at Polteel Bay, Skye.

Registration: Danzig [Gdansk]. 160nrt.

(Location of loss cited as N57 0.0 W6 0.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Polteel Bay is presumably to be equated with Loch Pooltiel, a prominent inlet on the W side of the Duirinish peninsula.

The location cited by Whittaker appears erroneous.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 18 August 2003.
