This sand-pit, which appears to be of comparatively recent date and was probably opened to provide sand for the construction of the shooting ranges, is situated immediately SE of range-warden's office. It measures about 60m from ESE to WNW by 20m transversely and it has been dug into the S side of a knoll to a depth of 3m.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 13 August 2002.
