NO 116 219 An evaluation was carried out with some limited salvage excavation prior to the redevelopment of the Tesco supermarket on the Edinburgh Road. The well-preserved remains of the engine shed (visible on the 1st edition OS map [Perthsire, Sheet XCVIII, 1866]), originally built by the Scottish Central Railway and dating from around the founding of the line, were identified. External walls, engine inspection pits, platforms, machine bases, and column bases for the roof supports were all identified. Most of the shed was sealed by 2m of modern levelling deposits and it was therefore decided that the majority of the shed would survive the development in situ.

Archive to be deposited in the NMRS.
