The 1797 Leith Hall estate plan (E 33868 and E 33869 CN) show a 'Kirk' at approximately this location. It seems likely, however, that this was an error on the part of the surveyor, and the annotation 'Kirk' should have been applied to the old church, which is drawn but not named on the plan. It was still in use in the 1790s.

Neither the Kennethmont Kirk Session records (NAS CH2/1057/2 and CH2/1057/3) nor the records of the Presbytery of Alford (NAS CH2/8/5 and CH2/8/6) mention the building of a new church until 1812, when the current Parish Church was built east of this location. Information from Anne Cassells, 08 November 2007.
