The canal is culverted as a consequence of the route of the A801, which links the M8 and the M9.

This feature is visible on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1989) and on the OS Basic Scale digital map (2000). On the latter it can clearly be seen that the road cutting across the line of the canal is the A801.
