Kiln (dis) [NAT]

Aerial photographs (RCAHMS 1993) show that this limekiln has been demolished.

At the time of a RCAHMS photographic survey, February 2000, this Limekiln was disused and steadily collapsing.
Visited by RCAHMS (MKO), November 1999.
This limekiln still survives and has been mistakenly stated as being demolished. It is not visible on the air photographs of 1993, being just out of frame to the E.
The stone built limekiln is situated about 40m W of a minor road from the A1 to Stenton. It stands amid spoil heaps, has at least two draw holes and stands to about 6m in height. The spoil has been ramped at the S side to provide access to the top of the kiln. The kiln is depicted on the OS 1:10560 scale map, (1971) and is annotated as Kiln (dis).
