The gates and gatepiers were designed by Sir Robert Lorimer. Thomas Hadden of Edinburgh made the gates and overthrow in 1927-8. Phyllis Bone executed the two sculptures of hounds on the gatepiers.The Gates were dismantled, cleaned and restored at Ratho Byres Forge, Mid Lothian ( the successors to Thomas Hadden's business) in March 1999.
