A low rubble dam, across the narrow valley floor of the Allt an Fheadain, was recorded during a pre-afforestation survey by Headland Archaeology (NMRS MS 899/74, no.4). The dam, which measures 2.5m in thickness and is 0.5m high, is broken in the centre by the burn.
Given the location, the purpose of the dam is to create a pond to attract wildfowl, in which case a 19th or 20th century date seems probable. A right-angled section of well-faced rubble wall, measuring 3.5m by 2.5m and 0.5m high, lies 25m upstream on the S side of the burn. Its function is not known but it may be associated with the dam.

Site recorded during a short-notice survey undertaken of 83ha of land on the River Sand, 3km NW of Gairloch.
