Pill box on line of coastal defence: visible on air photographs AAS/93/15/G30/21-2, flown 11 November 1993. Copies held by Grampian Regional Council.
NMRS, MS/712/6.
This brick-and concrete-built pillbox is situated just above the high water mark on the seaward edge of the dunes of Balmedie Links, about 450m NE of the northern car park at Balmedie Country Park. The pillbox is hexagonal in plan with brick walls, externally rendered with concrete, a concrete roof and a concrete floor. There is an entrance in the W wall, and a rectangular embrasure in each of the other five sides. The interior is furnished with a concrete bench which runs around the five embrasured sides. The movement of the dunes has undermined the pillbox and has caused it to tilt forwards dramatically, revealing its five foundation pillars, three of which incorporate concrete sewer pipes.
