Auchintoshan Distillery

Visited and photographed by J R Hume, University of Strathclyde, 1970, 1975.

Information from NMRS MS/749 (Dunbartonshire, Old Kilpatrick parish, Auchemtoshan Distillery), photographic prints attached of general view and view of pot still and worm of c.1830 Hume index H75/2/1-5 (negatives with reporter, J R Hume).

(Location cited as NS478726) Auchentoshan Distillery (also known as Auchentoshan and probably the same as the distillery referred to as Duntocher) was said to have been founded in c.1800 and between 1830 and 1964 it had had about nine owners. The Distillery was sold in 1974 to Eadie Cairns Limited and was re-equipped. Auchentoshan has three stills (triple distillation). The steam engine has been preserved and the distillery was still in operation in 1980.

M S Moss and J R Hume, 1981.
