NO11NE 69 1628 1850
Traces of this subrectangular enclosure, which was first revealed by aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1982), can still be seen at the edge of a S-facing river terrace some 350m SW of Mains of Kinmouth farmsteading (NO11NE 34.05). The S side of the enclosure is defined by no more than the edge of the terrace, but a shallow hollow marks the line of a broad ditch on the N and W, and cropmarks reveal its presence on the E, partly masked by a field boundary. Thus defined, the interior of the enclosure measures at least 40m from E to W by 20m transversely, but there may well have been an internal bank. The low-lying location adjacent to the river, and the character of the perimeter, suggest that the enclosure is probably a moated site of medieval date.
Information from RCAHMS (JRS), 9 December 1996.
Scheduled as Wallacetown, moated settlement.
Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 12 February 2001.
