'Balloch Pier: A small railway pier on Loch Lomond, with a wooden block of station offices partly supported on piles. The steamer berth is protected by sheet metal piling. Now used for pleasure sailings on the Loch, with PS Maid of the Loch.'

Visited and photographed (see MS/749) by J R Hume, University of Strathclyde, 29 April 1971.

Information from NMRS MS/749 (Dunbartonshire Bonhill/Balloch parish).

This station was opened (as Balloch Wharf Station) on 15 July 1850, and renamed Balloch Pier Station (by the Dumbarton and Balloch Joint Rly) at an unspecified date. It closed on 29 September 1986, the line being cut back to Balloch Central Station (NS38SE 30).

R V J Butt 1995.

Balloch Pier is situated at the southern end of Loch Lomond, to the W of the outlet via the River Leven. It formerly afforded easy access to the loch by public transport, the integral station being one of the northern termini of the (electrified) Glasgow suburban railway system.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 19 June 1998.
