Aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1995) has revealed the cropmark of a dismantled mineral railway line to the S of Inveresk. This is named the Monktonhall, Ormiston & MacMerry Branch of the North British railway on the revised 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Edinburghshire 1908, sheet iv.15), and met the main line at Monktonhall Junction (NT 3452 7120). The cropmark of this mineral railway intersects a cursus monument (NT37SE 49) at NT 3495 7099 and NT 3509 7080.
