Footbridge in Botanic Gardens, over River Kelvin, built c. 1890. A neat three-span plate-girder bridge, with elegant cast-iron railings.

The elegant cast-iron balustraded, plate-girder footbridge was thrown across the Kelvin to bring the wooded N bank of the river within the gardens at the extension of 1892-3.

The Botanic Gardens Footbridge was built around 1890, and is an attractive three-span plate-girder bridge with elegant cast-iron railings. It formerly made the gardens more accessible from North Kelvinside, prior to the construction of the Queen Margaret Drive Bridge (NS56NE 2241), and currently links the main part of the Botanic Gardens to the Walkway on the N bank of the river.

This bridge carries a footpath across the River Kelvin within the area of the botanic gardens (NS56NE 83.00); it remains in regular use. The river here forms the boundary between the parishes of Govan (to the S) and Glasgow (to the N).

The location cited is for the centre of the span, which appears to extend from NS c. 56977 67570 to NS c. 56966 67539.
