Steamship GERTRUD, 1627 ton, of Helsingfors, master R. Wallen, bound from Manchester to Helsingfors. Lost 1 June 1934, 6.50 (not shown if am or pm). Langaton, 1/4 mile from Stroma Lighthouse. Fog signal sounding from 5.10am. Weather calm, dense fog. Cause of wreck strong tide & dense fog. All 22 persons saved. Cargo ballast. Shortly after the crew had been taken off by one of the local boats the steamer commenced to break up & within 14 hours no trace of her was visible above water.

3 June 1934. The vessel went ashore on the north side of Stroma at a position bearing 080 degrees (true) and approximately 8 miles, from Dunnet Head.

21 January 1985. The site was not found nor referred to in the report of survey carried out by BUE Subsea.

(Classified as steamship: former name cited as Maud Hartmann, and date of loss as 1 June 1934). Gertrud: this vessel stranded on the W side of Langaton Point, slipped off, and sank in deep water.
Registration: Helsingfors. Built 1881. 1691grt. Length 79m. Beam: 11m.
