Viaduct [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1992.

This viaduct was built by Formans & McCall of Glasgow (engineers), Lucas & Aird of London (contractors) and Alexander Findlay & Co of Motherwell (steelworkers) to carry the West Highland Rly (a subsidiary of the North British Rly) across the Allt Kinglas; it opened on 11 August 1894, and remains in use. It is of lattice girder type and its length of 576 ft (175.6m) includes nine spans of 60 ft (18.3m); it was built by hoisting the girders into position with cantilever lifting tackle.

M Smith 1994.
