The W A MASSEY sank after an explosion which shook the ship.

Report by crew of the drifter ROSE.

Surveying Details

17 March 1918. The drifter ROSE, which was fishing next to the W A MASSEY reported the position to be 58 22 00N, 005 20 00W.

2 April 1918. The wreck's position is reported as the same as above or 4 minutes west by north from Handa Island in the Minch

13 March 1984. The site was not found during a category A sonar search.

This may be the charted wreck that is noted by Ridley in deep water 5 miles W of Creag a' Mhail and W of Handa [Island].
