As part of an archaeological assessment undertaken by Scotia Archaeology Limited along the proposed new route of the A1 between Tranent and Haddington in 1994, a trench 60m by 5m was opened across a possible enclosure, 60m across, since a segment of it lay within the road corridor. Investigation revealed that the cropmark was a silted up stream bed, with the source still active further uphill.
