NLO: Campbeltown [name: NR 720 204]

Campbeltown Loch [name centred NR 745 205].

Campbeltown, 10th Sept. 'The SARAH of Whitehaven, Witherington, from Quebec to Newry, in making for this harbour last night, ran on shore at the North side of the entrance, but if the weather proves moderate, she will be got off after being lightened.'

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 6256, London, Tuesday September 18 1827.

The SARAH, Witherington, from Quebec, arrived at Newry 15th inst., after being on shore near Campbeltown.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 6259, London, Friday September 28 1827.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6579).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Campbeltown Harbour (NR72SW 43.00) is centred at NR 72215 20399.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 25 April 2005.
