"Kingscavil Quarry: a very large quarry out of which is taken sandstone of a superior quality. There is a tramway leading from it to the Union Canal (NT07NW 73), part of the tramway going underground. Great quantities of the stone go to Leith for export. There are about 40 hands constantly emplyed. It is situated a short distance S of the road from Linlithgow to Edinburgh (B9080) and on the farm of Kingcavil. Leased and worked by Mr Duncan of Uphall and the property of Captain Stewar (Champfleurie House)."
