NO11NE 112 1897 1667.

This intermediate station was opened on 18 July 1848 by the Edinburgh and Northern Rly, it replaced an earlier station (Abernethy Road) on the extension of the line. The station closed to regular passenger traffic on 19 September 1955, but the line remains in regular use.

G Daniels and L Dench 1980; R V J Butt 1995.

Nothing now survives of the buildings of Abernethy station, which closed to regular passenger traffic in September 1955. The edges of the platforms that lay to either side of the original twin-tracks (now reduced to a single track) are still preserved, as are the platforms for the goods sidings, which lie to the north, E of the public road. Three of the original lamp standards can still be seen on the southern of the mainline platforms.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 28 November 1986.
