NX15NE 70.00 from 1999 5757 to 1500 5748. RR 8.

Formerly RX 23.

Roman Road: see also NX15NW 75.00.

NX15NE 70.01 NX 1500 5748 to NX 1510 5745 Dunragit Roman Road

NX15NE 70.02 NX 1949 5650 to NX 1984 5616 Glenluce Roman Road

The Roman road from Glenlochar (NX76SW 2) to Loch Ryan via Gatehouse of Fleet is thought to follow the same track as the Old Military Road, which runs from the Bridge of Sark to Portpatrick (MR 23, see NX15NE 78).

A Roman road W of Glenluce could have followed a line similar to the A75 to Dunragit (NX 150 577). Numerous Roman finds have been made in this area including the cremation burial of a Roman at High Torrs (NX15NW 13). These finds, however, may indicate no more than coastal trade.

A Wilson 1989.

The Roman road is visible as quarry pits in RCAHMS oblique aerial photographs (see NX15NE 70.01 and NX15NE 70.02).

Information from RCAHMS (SW), 18 July 2003.
