The 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet ix) shows a bing about 300m to the NW of Shotts Manse, with an 'Old Shaft' at its SSE end and a more extensive spoil tip to the SW. The latter is now in a forestry plantation, but the smaller bing survives in a pasture field. There are no surface indications of the shaft depicted on the 2nd edition (ibid), although there is an irregular depression at the N end of the bing.
